01 Who can apply

You can apply for an insight day if you are a penultimate-year law student, or finalist or graduate from any degree discipline. We accept and encourage applications from all universities.

Our academic requirements are a minimum AAB at A-level or equivalent and a 2:1 degree (obtained or predicted). We take into account mitigating circumstances and use Rare’s contextualised recruitment system to measure a candidate’s performance against the average grades of their school. We review all application forms holistically, which means if you fall slightly short of our academic requirements but demonstrate great potential, you will still be considered.

02 Online application form

03 Insight day

During the day you will hear from our partners, counsel, associates and trainees about life at Weil, as well as receive a deeper insight into our core practice areas. You will take part in a case study exercise, which will give you an insight into the work we do and learn first-hand from our Early Careers & Development team about our application and assessment process. You’ll also get the chance to network with our current trainees and ask any questions about the firm.

04 Support and adjustments

02 Online application form

Complete a short online application form answering two motivational questions and one commercial question. This is your first opportunity to show us why you’re the right person to take a seat at Weil. Consider how you can make your application stand out. You should highlight your work experience, the skills you’ve learned and how they apply to the role of a trainee. Successful applicants also tell us why they’re interested in pursuing a career with us and demonstrate they have the determination it takes to grasp this opportunity.

03 Pre-recorded video interview

The pre-recorded video is an opportunity to build on your application form and bring it to life. It offers us an insight into your achievements, your motivations for a career in commercial law at Weil and your determination to succeed here.

During the video interview, you will answer three questions - two commercial / knowledge based questions and one competency based question. You will have 60 seconds to prepare for each question and 90-seconds to answer. Before you answer the questions, you will have the opportunity to complete a practice question as many times as you would like.

04 Vacation scheme offer

If you perform well in your video interview, we will invite you to our offices to complete an individual case study, as well as a 45-minute interview with two partners. We’ll assess your suitability for Weil based on your commerciality, motivation and the potential we see in you. We’ll ask some skills-based questions, give you the opportunity to sell yourself and demonstrate your knowledge of Weil, as well as highlight why you think we should invest in your development and progression.

During the vacation scheme, you’ll complete assessments alone and as a group, as well as attend a partner interview. All of these assessments, as well as your performance during the scheme, will determine whether we offer you a training contract. We’ll challenge you to show us what you can really do, but make sure you’re put in a position to be your best via a support network including a supervisor, trainee buddy and the wider Early Careers & Development team.

01 Who can apply

The solicitor apprenticeship is a school leavers’ programme. You must have completed, or be in the process of completing, your A Levels or equivalent, and achieve a minimum AAB. We recruit nationally and the programme is based in London. We offer relocation support and you will receive £2,000 a sign-on bonus to help with any additional starting costs. 

02 Online application form

Complete a short online application form answering three questions - two about your motivations and one that assesses your commercial awareness. You can also attend a webinar before applying, to learn more about the programme, meet our people and current solicitor apprentices, and ask any questions about the application process.

03 Pre-recorded video interview

If successful, you will be invited to complete a pre-recorded video interview to build on your application form and provide insight into your achievements and motivations for a career in commercial law at Weil. You will answer three questions about your interest in the programme; a skills-based question, a competency question, and a commercial question. You will have one minute to prepare each one and 90 seconds to answer. Before you start, you have the opportunity to complete a practice question as many times as you like.

04 Phone interview

If successful, we’ll invite you to a telephone interview where you will speak to a member of our Early Careers & Development team. They will ask you about your motivations for pursuing the solicitor apprenticeship route and why you are interested in Weil, as well as a range of competency questions. It is also your first opportunity to have one-on-one time with a member of the firm, so come prepared with questions. 

05 Assessment centre

Following your telephone interview, if we see potential in you, you  will be invited to an in-person assessment centre at our London office. You’ll join other applicants to complete a series of guided assessments, including a group exercise, a written exercise and a 45-minute interview with two partners. You’ll also have lunch with current trainees and apprentices and receive a full office tour.

This is also your chance to see what it’s like working at Weil and ask any questions you have. The Early Careers & Development team will be on-hand all day to support you.
